This 70 MHz oscillator is designed to be phase locked to a very stable external 10 MHz reference. It is voltage controlled using a varactor diode for tuning. The tuning range is limited to just enough tuning to overcome drift due to temperature, pushing, pulling, etc. By keeping the tuning small the best phase noise is obtained. Other frequencies can be used for the external reference. Once locked to the external reference it can be used as a reference oscillator for locking a high frequency Dielectric or YIG Oscillator.
