Our Model 452004 Synthesizer is used in a military radar system. It replaces 24 separate crystal oscillators and RF switches. It uses a Direct Digital Synthesizer, which is upconverted and then divided down to reduce the spurious levels. This signal is then used as the reference frequency in a wide bandwidth phase locked loop to allow fast stepping. While this application only required 24 frequency steps, the 32 bit resolution of the DDS is capable of delivering a step size of less than 1 Hz over a broad frequency range.
